For our final social event before the summer begins, take a break from studying, and join us on Saturday, May 12th for the close-out team BBQ. This year, we're bringing it closer to campus. Instead of Vilas, we'll meet at Edward Klief Park (block between Charter and Orchard, just south of Regent) at 3pm (1200 Milton St. would be a good address to use if you're looking it up on a map). Come for free food, time to spend outside, and another chance to hang with your favorite team. If you have any payments, team equipment, receipts for reimbursement, or other unfinished business, this would be a good time to take care of it.
If you think you'll be there, please try to RSVP to Sarah Castillo so she can estimate how many goodies to buy :) See you there! |

Summer Midwest Conference races! |
For 2013 Collegiate Nationals, our team (and all others) will have to qualify through accumulating points by racing in their conference. We are part of the Midwest conference and our conference season will last mainly over the summer. The following races have been approved by the conference team representatives to be included in the MWCTC race schedule for the 2012-2013 season:
Help us qualify by doing these races! To compete in these races as a scoring member of our team, you will need to have an individual annual USA Triathlon membership before race day (one-day license not accepted), be a full time student for at least one semester next year (both, unless you're graduating), or and be 28 or under next April. Alternatively, if you were full time this past semester and are graduating now but youwon't be enrolled at another school for the summer, you can race and score for us. You must enter the Collegiate division of the Olympic distance races above. The team officers are thinking about the best way to select our Nationals team for next year, but at least some of the spots will be reserved for those who help us qualify at these races. The team will help support coordinating getting people to these (and possibly subsidizing them). Everyone who races at Nationals next year must have done at least one conference race. Incoming freshmen may statisfy this before their enrollment at UW officially begins by racing the same distance at any these races, though they may not enter the collegiate category yet and thus will not be scored. Once they are officially enrolled (e.g. the last few races of the season) they are eligible to enter the collegiate division and be scored. The Collegiate division of all of these races is discounted- contact our race coordinator Jim Mott for the details. If you have any lingering questions about eligibilty, talk to Summer Ohlendorf, the team webmaster/Midwest Collegiate Commissioner.

UW Tri's Winter Team Race |
Join us for the End of Winter Polar Bear Paw Thaw Extravabonanza!!! This is a FREE triathlon open to all members of the UW Triathlon Team. If you haven't done a triathlon race yet, this is a great opportunity! The race will be held on Sunday, February 19th at locations on or near campus and last from about 8am-4pm. It will consist of an 800 yard pool swim at the Nat, a 20k simulated bike on your own bike hooked up to a Computrainer machine at SBR in Verona, and a 5k run at a location TBD. The times from each event will be added together for a total race time. The top 7 males and top 7 females in this race will qualify to represent our team at Collegiate Nationals in April. This is a fun team event to attend, regardless of your experience or desire to go to Nationals. It is a good opportunity to see how you are progressing over the winter and help establish goals for the summer. Also, not everyone races at once so there is lots of downtime to bond with your teammates while cheering others on. You won’t want to miss it. We'd like as many people on the team as possible to participate! Contact Jim Mott (

Come join us for our Spring Formal at the Old Fashioned, 7pm on Friday, March 23. Get more for your money this semester - $15/person will now get you an appetizer (soup or salad), entree, dessert, and non-alcoholic drinks! We've reserved a room. Dates are not required, but feel free to bring one if you like (on or off the team). Remember to let Sarah Castillo know if you can make it, and whether you'll be bringing anyone. Then, be sure to get your money in to one of the officers or to the team mailbox at the SAC. This is a great opportunity to finally see what your teammates look like without running shorts or goggles!
